AIROH Aviator 2.1 Offroad Helmets
AIROH Aviator 2.1 offroad helmets are one of the lightest, hand crafted in Italy and offer 12 graphic alternatives plus a full BLACK or WHITE versions. The Aviator helmet family is very interesting choice especially for adventure touring in warm and hot conditions. The ventilation features are versatile and one of the most efficient which becomes highly necessary in active motorcycle riding. The AIROH Aviator 2.1 offroad helmets are one of the lightest road legal full face alternatives. The Aviator shell is a special blend of multidirectional carbon fibers, kevlar with fiber glass. The light weight is a comfort factor which becomes obvious at the end of a long day of adventure touring at the latest when the energy levels are low.
AIROH Aviator 2.1 Offroad Helmet Features
The AIROH Aviator 2.1 offroad helmets have extremely efficient ventilation system with 7 intake vents and 3 exhaust vents. The Aviator chin guard has 3 intake vents including a anti-bacterial BULPREN -mesh and dirt sponge. They filter dirt, resist rain and water flying through at high speed. Therefore the Aviator rider is not eating dirt and grinding stones behind another vehicle. The mesh filter and the dirt sponge can be removed and washed which is necessary maintenance feature in offroad riding. In front of the forehead there are 4 intake vents and large air canals channeling the air flow to the top and down to the back of the head. In front of the temples there are 2 intake vents providing air flow to the side. On top of the helmet there are four 10 mm intake vents which can be also closed easily with separate vent covers when riding in rain or moderate weather conditions. The AIROH Aviator 2.1 helmet upper rear extractor and the 2 exhaust vents in the neck are designed to direct the air flow straight back passing the neck brace and the collar which could catch the air flow otherwise.
Generally offroad helmets such as the AIROH Aviator 2.1 are from the ventilation point of view slightly better than dual sport helmets such as the AIROH S5 with a full face visor. By using offroad goggles, the adventure rider gets the maximum amount of air flow to the face and the best possible visibility in compromised conditions. Active riding in warm and especially hot conditions leads to sweating and the more sweat builds on the face without efficient air flow, the more likely some of it could go even in the eyes. The fresh air flow with the cooling effect is an important comfort factor in adventure touring too. Also the dust and dirt on the goggles is not as problematic as a large fuzzy visor surface reflecting the sun and creating a barrier.
The AIROH Aviator 2.1 comfort liner is removable, washable and has no plastic parts or surfaces pressing agains the skin and creating uncomfortable pressure points. The mesh liner allows the high sweat areas to dry faster and also the cheek pads are removable and washable which is always important for a long run. The AIROH Aviator 2.1 painted shell construction is UV -coated and hand taped with graphics which explains the variety in pricing. A separate visor peak extension provides additional sun coverage which is an interesting feature for riding towards the sunset, but depending on the windshield in question, the extension may catch the air flow at high speed. At low speed this is not a problem, but personally I prefer to protect the eyes with proper sun glasses rather than using a peak extension.
AIROH Aviator 2.1 Offroad Helmet Safety
The AIROH Aviator 2.1 offroad helmets are road legal according to American DOT and European ECE certificates. The Aviator has emergency fast removal cheek pad system AEFR that allows the emergency responders to pull the cheek pads out first and prepare more room to remove the helmet without causing any further damages. The traditional double D -ring boucle system is still one the best and easiest in use. The D -ring allows to adjust the strap automatically every time when closed without any preparations. The helmet peak can be put to 2 positions by using the adjustment screws that will also shear off and remove the peak from the helmet more safely in the even of a fall straight forward face first, when the peak usually digs in the dirt.
