RUKKA Virium Gore-Tex® Motorcycle Gloves with Long Cuffs
RUKKA Virium GoreTex® motorcycle gloves with long cuffs and a waterproof membrane are very good for riding in moderate, low temperature and changing weather conditions. The long and slim cuffs come on top of the sleeve cuffs and minimize the direct air flow inside the suit keeping the biker more comfortable. The slim cuff structure helps to place it on top, but also underneath the jacket cuffs. When the sleeves are placed on top of the gloves and left loose, long cuffs keep the sleeve cuffs open collecting direct air flow in the jacket. This is useful when the temperature starts to rise. The breathable textile structure with Gore-Tex® membrane takes care of the hands by working with the inside moisture and protecting from the rain, but also from the chilly winds. The RUKKA Virium GoreTex® gloves have no additional ventilation features and the main color is black which means that when the temperature approaches 30 degrees (86F) temperatures, it`s time to put better ventilated and light colored gloves on, but until then the VIRIUM gloves are one of the best smartphone adapted motorcycle gloves.
The RUKKA Virium Gore-Tex® gloves with long cuffs are a kind of intermediate level of touring gloves backing up another pair of gloves for either hot- or chilly conditions. Exceptionally the VIRIUM gloves have touchscreen conductive fingertips for the index finger and the thump. This feature is very useful when the smartphone or the tablet is in the cockpit and in use. Motorcycle gloves are hardly as accurate and fast as bare fingers on the screen, but nevertheless conductive fingertips are today important and perhaps even a STD feature in the very near future. The RUKKA offers a full line of motorcycle gloves with touchscreen features, but hopefully even more is on it`s way.
RUKKA Virium Gore-Tex® Motorcycle Glove Features
The RUKKA Virium GoreTex® motorcycle gloves adapt very well to the handlebar due to the Gore-Tex® XTrafit single layer construction which is laminated from 3 separate layers. This makes the VIRIUM gloves wrinkle free and eliminates liner shifting completely, but also provides more exact feel to the handlebar and the instrumentation. On a long term basis, the palms remain comfortable and rub free. Additionally the structure is pre-shaped for grip posture providing even better fit and eliminating the pull resistance effect due to the grip posture. On the palm side against the handlebar and levers, there are improved grip areas. The high wear surfaces are double leather reinforced. The Gore-Tex® membrane keeps the hands dry and protects against the elements. The RUKKA Virium GoreTex® glove light weight textile structure feels very natural, light and nimble in use. The gloves are easy to slide on, place on top of the jacket cuffs and the VIRIUM gloves remain in place thanks to adjustable wristband and the VELCRO® closure. The cuff can be adjusted with VELCRO® fastener allowing versatile adjustments both for on top and beneath the sleeves scenarios.
The RUKKA Virium GoreTex® gloves offer above the average level of protection including palm side LUNATE, backhand knuckle and TPR finger protectors on top of the abrasion resistant shell. This level of protection is typical for quality motorcycle gloves for road and light offroad touring without any real challenges or risky offroad riding style. A step up would be a RUKKA Argosaurus with long cuffs or RUKKA Vauhti with short cuff and additional protection features. The CARPAL lunate and scaphoid bones are very easily damaged when sliding off the road and hitting obstacles in the ground. The plastic lunate protector surface slides against the ground more easily and spreads the hit on a larger area. A foam cushion below the protector brings additional comfort and minimizes pressure points. The palm side has a double leather on high wear areas. On the backhand side the pre-shaped knuckle protector with foam cushion is anatomically very comfortable and creates no pull effect. The small TPR finger protectors guard the major proximal bones. The RUKKA Virium GoreTex® gloves have 3M Scotchlite reflector piping and logos on the backhand in order to provide additional protection in darker conditions.
The RUKKA Virium GoreTex® gloves have so called touchscreen conductive finger tips which allows to use the smartphones and the tablets gloves on. Today smartphones and tablets are also used for navigation and unlike the traditional GPS navigators, they do not have conductive layer on top of the screen itself and therefore special materials are necessary. Naturally smartphones are also used for communication and as a music player which means that they need to be in the cockpit and used gloves on also while on the move. Touchscreen fingertips are rather new feature and only very few brands such as RUKKA offer motorcycle gloves for smart devices. I am sure others will follow shortly.
The RUKKA Virium GoreTex® gloves are equipped with a visor wiper which is on the side of the left hand index finger. Those who ride e.g. with GEIGERRIG hydration systems, can even spray some water on the visor and wipe out some of dirt. In certain conditions the wiper is very useful e.g. when the road is wet and you are riding behind someone. The vehicle in front of you picks up some of the water & dirt and throws up a thin moist cloud which sticks to the visor or goggles and deteriorates the visibility.
