YAMAHA XT660Z Tenere ABS 2014 has enormous adventure touring potential with a long fuel range, torque engine and relative light overall weight. A traditional fuel tank allows to monitor the fuel consumption properly and it counter balances the payload at the back. The XT660Z is balanced and agile with the touring load, but of course slightly top heavy with a full tank. The Tenere is very traditional touring enduro without advanced MC -technology, but the package is still competitive. The XT660Z -single cylinder engine is resilient and economical which is good for touring. The engine vibrates surprisingly little, even at highway speed. Servicing the Tenere is most simple and hardly requires a dedicated YAMAHA -dealer. The performance is not very sporty and especially with a full touring load, the Tenere is a rather humble dual sport motorcycle. Never the less, the XT660Z lifts the front wheel with the 1ST- and the 2ND gear easily. The simplicity and a comfortable character, makes the YAMAHA XT660Z Tenere ABS 2014 a sensible choice for solo riders with an adventure in mind.
The YAMAHA XT660Z Tenere ABS 2014 has pretty much all the basics in order. There are cross spoked rims and a 21inch front wheel giving fluent ride on loose offroad surfaces. With proper skills and tyres, the Tenere goes anywhere. The very basic instrumentation is useful and includes proper fuel monitoring features. The XT660Z -riding ergonomics are good for average size riders, but there are hardly any adjustments. Never the less, the single piece seat has several alternatives e.g. at the TOURATECH. With adjustable offroad pegs, the Tenere can be tuned for slightly taller and shorter riders. The DESERT -rally type of wind cover is good for riding in standing posture since it`s placed quite far away and in a upright angle, but it`s also rather short and narrow. As long as the rider is not very tall and the routing is mainly outside the highways, this is not a problem. There are spoilers, hand guards and taller windshields to fix this and the equipment industry has kept a close eye on the YAMAHA XT660Z Tenere ABS 2014. Tuning would not be a problem what so ever.
The YAMAHA XT660Z Tenere ABS 2014 is not perfect either. There are no low octane fuel settings available and the permanent ABS must be a some kind of misunderstanding. Even if the brother model without the ABS would have been the reason at some point, it`s not anymore and a lot of countries require the ABS support for all new motorcycles. A simple ON – OFF -switch would have been very useful and a cost efficient solution. The absent low octane fuel settings are another short coming which speaks slightly against the remote exploring in exotic surroundings. The XT660Z is not made for aggressive trail riding or slowest maneuvering in technically demanding conditions. It`s too heavy for that and the cruising gear ratios are simply too long. Never the less, the Tenere is a fine alternative for adventurous solo riders that appreciate the torque, simplicity and are prepared to rationalize the payload.
